A Memory for the Sacred Caves in Bulgaria

Summary/Abstract: The work summarizes the published up to now data about usage of the caves in Bulgarian historical and contemporary lands as sanctuaries from the Neolithic period to recent days. Here are presented caves-sanctuaries, related to cults of Greek, Thracian-Phrygian and Roman deities, Christian and Islam religions. A description of the known ritual practices in the cavessanctuaries is also given and was made an attempt to explain their sense.
