In the context of his work Awa’il al-maqâlât: Shaikh al-Mufid's view of Imamate

Summary/Abstract: Shaikh al-Mufid, who owe’s his success mainly to the Buwayhi authority, is a key figure in the formation of speculative Shi’i theology. In his works, he tried to establish the creed on the basis of reasoning rather than literal understanding (Akhbari). In his work, Awa’il al-maqâlât, he followed this principal and analyzed his personal views in detail. On the problem of imamate which is the main theme of his works, he not only relied on traditions (akhbar) transmitted from the imams but also used rational methods.
