Summary/Abstract: The development of intercultural skills can be considered one of the most crucial goals of modern foreign language teaching. This task seems particularly challenging for school teachers. International school exchanges offer an excellent opportunity for young learners to acquire intercultural skills through immersion in a new cultural and linguistic environment. The article focus especially on German-French and German-Polish exchange programs. More generally, we stress the increasing importance of school exchanges and intercultural communication in a globalized world.
