Summary/Abstract: The ability to make oral presentations in a foreign language is crucial nowadays, not only during university studies but also later, in professional life. If we want to prepare our students to present effectively, we should give them a list of criteria for evaluating their speeches. This paper attempts to describe four groups of criteria that the present author has found to be of special importance. After a brief theoretical introduction, which focuses on difficulties involved in evaluating speaking in a foreign language and issues related to making presentations, the most important results of a survey conducted among students of applied linguistics are discussed. In particular, it focused on such issues as who should evaluate oral presentations and the ways in which this should be done.
