Summary/Abstract: The author examines a number of relevant legal issues pertaining to the preambles of contemporary constitutions (their scope, contents and structure), puts forward the question of legal nature of preamble, and makes an effort to clarify the notion of preamble. He analyzes 194 preambles to the contemporary constitutions, and concludes that preamble has the same legal nature and strength as the very constitutions it foreshows.
