Summary/Abstract: The author points to a new area of research into communicative competence of students, i.e. the YouTube website. The Internet as an important agent of digital natives’ socialization enables us to trace children’s natural language. The texts uploaded to YouTube differ from those created in an artificial situation of school discourse. Speakers (children aged 10–13) show a well-developed competence while they create their oral texts. However, we can observe the lack of the same competence at school.
