The evolution of zero-base budgeting

Summary/Abstract: Zero-base budgeting has again become popular among managers. According to the survey of Bain & Company this concept of budgeting, over 40 years after its creation, is enjoying a renaissance. Zero-base budgeting means to plan company activity “from scratch” – from zero. It is not only a powerful tool for cost reduction and continuous improvement, but a unique mind-set shift that upends managers default assumptions. The paper offers the critical evaluation of the zero-base budgeting evolution. It discusses the traditional zero-base budgeting process and new approach to this concept.
