Summary/Abstract: The author shares her reflections on the role of books in the life of contemporary middle school students and their teachers. According to the author, the empirical research identifies that middleschool students do not read books at all, except for required reading. Nowadays for many people, the Internet has been replacing books. Surfing the Internet, browsing electronic texts and identifying with electronic heroes seem so fascinating and exciting that the importance of reading books has decreased considerably. Moreover, there has been a growing concern that reading culture among the teachers has waned significantly. Although they aren’t considered digital natives, they do not show too much interest in books.
