Summary/Abstract: A critical source of competitive advantage of contemporary tourism organisations is human capital embedded in their employees, as it plays a central role in creating value for customers. Such an approach to human resources underscores the need for research into job satisfaction and its determining factors. The purpose of the paper is to examine the nature of the relationship between overall employee satisfaction and its organisational drivers. To reach the purpose proposed, field investigation was conducted with a group of 1026 tourism employees. The study reveals that the linkage between job satisfaction and its determinants is asymmetric, i.e. high and low levels of need fulfilment in the workplace affect employee satisfaction with varying strength. Based on the analysis, job satisfaction drivers were classified into three categories: must-be, attractive, and one-dimensional factors.
