Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to present the development of tourism in Chernobyl and the consequences of considering the CEZ as a site of cultural heritage. Although for many years the CEZ has been a site of scientific exploration for a variety of researchers, a fundamental lack of reflection on the development of tourism in Chernobyl can be seen in the literature on the topic, in particular in the context of the evolution of the site as a tourist attraction. This issue, however, is a matter of keen media interest, the more so that this year sees the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster. To determine the character of the process of change of the CEZ into a tourist attraction, the method of content analysis, participant observation and semi-structured interviews with tourist industry employees was used. Interest in visits to the CEZ is growing year on year, and we can therefore say that the CEZ is transforming into a tourist attraction, which in turn is causing certain tensions associated with the perceived role of the CEZ in the cultural landscape of Ukraine.
