Summary/Abstract: The article presents the role of music in all forms and types of school in different levels of education in Slovakia. It characterizes the notion of music education. The reform in arts education (the School Act) introduced in Slovakia on September 1, 2008, started several educational reforms in the country. Two-level curriculum and ISCED classification were adopted. Subjects within the curriculum were divided into areas of study. Music education, art education, literature, media education, esthetic education are components of the Arts and Culture area of study. Music teacher trainings offer diversity within unity as according to the Bologna declaration, the artist and pedagogue become united in one person.
