Summary/Abstract: The paper addresses the specific situations common to children of interethnic families, mostly related to their language, the ethno-cultural and religious upbringing by their parents. The study is focused on persons born in Bulgarian-Russian, Bulgarian-Ukrainian, Bulgarian-Austrian, Bulgarian-Slovak and Bulgarian-German families, residing in Bulgaria or in other European countries. The ethno-cultural upbringing is considered as part of enculturation and socialization occurring in the first years of life for each individual. In interethnic families there are two cultural models transmitted from parents to descendants by applying different strategies of reconciling – “one-side arrangement”, “alternative arrangement”, “creative adjustment” a. o. The language education includes the different means chosen by parents for transmitting their language competence to their offspring. The individual religious instruction is considered on the basis of collected data about family practices of religious feast celebrations of people living with two cultures and two festivity systems.
