Summary/Abstract: The paper reviews the materials available in the scope of media management. Emphasis has been put on the possibilities of taking security aspects into consideration in the activities of media organisations. The media sector term has been discussed. Emphasis has been put on strategic behaviour of media companies in the global market, in particular on convergence phenomena. Selected subjects related to functioning of media companies in the aspect of security have been included: changes in the media market, transformations of the value chain, shaping of the media business models, media as a stakeholder, media stakeholders, the role of corporate social responsibility (CSR), media in crisis situations, importance of media logistics. Emphasis has been put on the effect of communication models on security. The media system – state security relations have been described. The effect of social media on security has been emphasised. The fact has been pointed out that media may perform a positive role for improvement of security, but also may be used to create situations threatening this security. Examples of media behaviour in various situations related to security issues have been presented.
