Summary/Abstract: Contemporary development processes vary widely in socio-economic space. Such variation occurs both between regions and within regions. The Lower Silesia region is one of the most dynamically developing in our country. However, on a regional scale, development processes are at a different pace. Dominating Wrocław with its surroundings creates a modern spatial centre, the southern subregions of the voivodships record a much lower development rate, which results in the rise of divergence in the economy of the region. The aim of the article is to discuss the development processes of the Lower Silesia region as well as its individual areas (adopted as subregions) as well as to identify the causes of such phenomena.
