Lean management – organisational innovation in hospitals

Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the present the concept of lean management as an innovative method of organization and management in healthcare units. Process approach and lean management can also be used for the restructuring of the hospital units. The author discusses about continuous improvement (CI) as a foundation of kaizen, lean management and innovation. The article presents selected medical processes in terms of lean management concept. The author identifies potential waste (Muda) in the process of functioning healthcare units and points out the necessity of implement lean management for the elimination it in hospital and national healthcare system. The last part of the article presents the benefits and pitfalls associated with the implementation of lean management in hospitals.
