Summary/Abstract: The aim of the present study is to examine and evaluate the deliberate destruction of both symbolic and mundane elements of the built environment, the magnitude of the crime decline in New York, and the new landscapes of fear established in the wake of 9/11. The paper generates insights about the dynamics of urban destruction, the malleability and variability of urban crime with the experience in New York, and the requirements of citizen rights in a globalized world of mass migration.
