Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the Semitic concept of “knowledge of God”, focusing on the prophetic writings, with a particular attention to Hosea. In the second part a parallel is drawn between Hosea’s view of knowledge, and the perspective of the First Epistle of John. Thus it is argued that John takes over the fundamental triad “to keep”, “to do” and “to walk”.
