Summary/Abstract: The present theoretical paper aims at setting forth and clarifying some issues regarding discourse theories, our contribution- apart from the attempt to develop some personal theories and make some personal classifications- being our own manner of presenting and comparing the main theories on this topic, a thing which is extremely useful, even indispensable for mastering the discourse concept and, further on, for the concrete analysis and interpretation of texts. Then, mention will be made of some of the most important classifications of discourse types, classifications based on various criteria.
