Summary/Abstract: Mass media represent means of the spreading of stereotypes and collective representations; they offer models of behaviour and present attitudes acceptable in a certain society. If stereotypes may possess a positive side by helping people structure and facilitate their understanding of the world around them, they may also at the same time mislead and mask reality by over-simplification. Mass media can thus «jam» the political discourse by circulating certain stereotypes more difficult to demolish as they are often induced through the presentation of events apparently apolitical, lacking any electoral message.
