Summary/Abstract: This article deals with an experiment conducted with students aged between 14 and 16 years old. The underpinning aim is to focus on the role of the axiological parameter (moral values and identity components) in the learning of the French language when writing a documentary/explanatory text. While analyzing the collected protocols, confrontational representations (scientific vs referential) have emerged in the learners’ productions. These results show, in particular, the impact of the salience of the cultural understanding of the documentary/explanatory text dealing with a scientific phenomenon and foreign language learning, in general.
