Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the presented research is the Polish adaptation of D. Conroy's The PerformanceFailure Appraisal Inventory (PFAI), which investigates the anticipatory fear of failure. The results ofthe test allow to describe five factors: fear of shame and embarrassment, depreciation of self-esteem,uncertain future, loss of social impact, and upsetting other important people. The Polish adaptation, based on a study of 934 people, involved two versions of the Inventory, the original consisting of 41statements and the shortened with 25 statements. The factor analysis allowed to distinguish fourfactors responsible for fear of failure. The factor of uncertain future did not appear asa separateelement. The result of the conducted analyses is the final version of 35 statements, characterizedby good psychometric parameters (factor reliability from .934 to .685, test-retest stability =0.9.). Polish adaptation has confirmed the value of Inventory as an attractive method of measuring thefear of failure.
