JACQUES POULIN’S FICTIONAL TRANSLATOR OR THE INVENTION OF A LITERARY MYTH

Summary/Abstract: Jacques Poulin’s Fictional Translator or the Invention of a Literary Myth. The present paper attempts to explore the reasons of a literary success: the fictional translator in 21st century Francophone fiction. Are we to place such success in the sociological and economical changes occurred in the late 1990s within the context of globalization and of the (re)invention of new professional identities? The starting point of our analysis will be a recent novel published by Jacques Poulin, La traduction est une histoire d’amour (2006), which will permit us to link the narrative success of the translator to sociological reflections on the Quebec territory challenged by a bilingual consciousness.
