Summary/Abstract: The article presents the problem of the characteristics of the teacher’s profession and the qualities that the teacher has to possess. Analyzed are empirical data from a study which has been performed by the author, aimed at differentiating the significant personal and professional qualities of the specialists exercising the teaching profession. The school of today requires openness, humanization, interaction, innovation. The priorities in the teacher’s activity and the demands that society puts before his personality are constantly changing. The aim of this study is to highlight the important qualities that teachers need to have in order to effectively fulfil their professional roles. Research methods – content analysis, test, correlation analysis, rang scaling. In order to achieve this goal, a test was used called “Identifying the qualities of a good teacher” developed and presented by Sabine, G., How Students Rate Their Schools and Teachers. The test was published in “Experimental Pedagogy” by Dono Vassilev. Studied are students from the first year of the pedagogical specialties, who are trained at the Faculty of Education at Trakia University.The results indicate that students consider the most important qualities that the teacher has to possess are: love towards the profession and towards children.
