Summary/Abstract: The present paper offers an analysis of the concept of distinction between the terms nature and person in the works of Boethius and Aquinas. An inevitable prerequisite for their ideas regarding aforementioned topic is an insight into the Aristotelian ontological conception of the “first” and “second substance”. Consequently, in the light of Boethius’s approach towards the topic of the present paper, particularly his interpretation of the distinction between the “first” and “second substance”, we can understand more about the medieval way of ontological construction of the concept of personality. Boethius laid the foundations of every later medieval approach to this problem but solution of Aquinas brings new elements to the whole ontological basis (as we know it from Aristotle) which he, anyway, uses as a starting point of his thought.
