Summary/Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this article is to present the trends in international trade in goods of the cultural and creative industries (CCI) in the European Union, with particular focus on the competitiveness on the international market. The analysis included evaluation of competitive position of the European Union on the world market and the competitiveness of countries, which joined the EU in 2004, on the EU market. Design/methodology/approach – This study was based on the analysis of literature, publications and reports prepared by international institutions and analysis of statistical data from Eurostat’s COMEXT database. Competitiveness on the international market was evaluated by using two indicators: trade coverage (TC) and revealed comparative advantage (RCA). Findings – The survey proves that competitiveness of European Union’s goods of the cultural and creative industries on the global market has developed, as evidenced by the increase in the nominal value of the foreign trade balance. The competitiveness of chosen European Union members are not characterized by noticeable constant trend. Originality/value – International trade of the cultural and creative industries is a common subject of research in Poland. Conclusions of this article might be a starting point for further research in this subject.
