Summary/Abstract: The author presents the idea that art is closer to religion than philosophy. As the main argument, he states that mind is not able to perceive the holy and the supra-mind, that which transcends reality. Although the truth is not possible to verbalize, mystics make it possible for us to discern it through their allusive, non-discursive poetic language. Art and religion are bound to inspiration, to subordination to the higher spiritual, divine sphere. Beauty is a path to gaining insight into supra-beauty, that is, the Creator. The difference between religion and art is in that religion is interested in supra-sensual beauty, in holiness, and not in aesthetic perfection. The separation of early modern art from religion has deprived art of its spiritual source. The resolution of the crisis of art, according to the author, lies in restoring its spirituality.
