Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to explore Giacomo Casanova’s real and fictitious life based on critical opinions and especially Stefan Zweig’s productive reception. The focus is on the man Casanova as an artist of self presentation, who brought it to world fame and became a myth. In the Age of Enlightenment, which is characterized by a strict moral code, Casanova fights against the prejudices of society, managing to turn freedom of expression into his motto and to make a name for himself.
