Summary/Abstract: Nowadays, kidnapping for ransom has become a purely criminal activity which is due to be followed by financial profits as its only objective, and that this profit is the driving force and the main culprit for the expansion of kidnapping and hostage-taking in the last few years. The paper will be elaborate the tactics of crisis management during the hostage crisis, including the negotiating teams, with special emphasis on negotiation tactics. This criminal act is becoming one of the most expansive crime in the world and due to the increased risk of kidnapping, the police authorities in different countries attach great attention taking special measures to protect certain categories of people who are presumed to be the possible target of kidnappers. The authors will also address the rules of procedure in situations when it comes to kidnapping and the tactics of negotiations with kidnappers will be specifically analysed, whereby it is necessary to build a flexible approach, patiently “postpone” and waste time, the key techniques of hostage negotiations. It is recommended that these situations are solved by a combination of negotiations, dialogue and tactical strength, while reaching for repressive action might cause the hostages more damage and not lead to their recue. The prevailing view is that the quality planning and crisis management are the key prerequisite for successful results in the rescue of the hostages. Allthough the history of kidnapping and hostage-taking is very long, only relatively recently there has been a systematic effort to penetrate the consequences, both short- and long-term, or in the strategic management of hostage incidents. How to help the kidnapped persons in these situations is a complex and sensitive issue and the authorities dealing with this problem have to be quite trained and informed, because these events can leave long-term consequences to these persons.
