Summary/Abstract: The article justifies the need for career development programs to be implemented within the non-formal education. Based on a study of the theoretical works of authors from America, Europe, Australia, and national framework documents, contemporary concepts of „career” and “career development“ are presented. Trends in the world of work have been outlined. Changes in life, learning, and work that determine the need for personal career management and the development of competences for personal career management are clarified. These competences are presented as a basis for the development of career development programs in the non-formal education.
