Summary/Abstract: The author describes the restructuring and expansion of the large sawmill plant located in the south-western Poland. She also offers an evaluation of the efficiency of the measures taken. The sawmill industry plays a special role both in the wood processing sector and in the economy of Poland. The main reason is the fact that this sector functions chiefly thanks to the natural and at the same time renewable resource base. Besides, the author claims that wood processing does not demand large amounts of energy; conversely, there is an opportunity to regain and utilise wood waste. These factors, in the author’s view, determine to a large extent the ecological character of the sawmill industry products, which has significant relevance in terms of achieving sustainable development of the country. The need to invest in this particular industry is remarkable
