Summary/Abstract: Wine fraud can take several forms, from mislabeling of bottles to adding improper ingredients into wine or using inferior quality or not allowed grapes. These frauds can negatively affect producers, dilute the value of brands, denominations of origin or geographical indications, and even cause health problems, due to harmful ingredients. In the Introduction, we outline the classification system for quality wines. Sections II discusses the frauds that can be perpetrated and presents a number of recent wine fraud cases from various countries. Section III presents the methods and technologies that are currently used to prevent or detect wine frauds. The conclusion presents possible wine fraud prevention and detection improvements.
