Summary/Abstract: The public radio’s mission is the presentation and cultivation of the traditions and cultural values of the nation and of the minority national communities, to ensure a program grid which offers high quality and large spectrum of programs, containing cultural, entertaining and educational elements as well. This paper focuses on whether there exist or not regional radio programs which present the folkloric traditions and values, and how the increasing popularity of commercial media affects the program structure of regional radios. The author compares the Romanian public radio broadcasting and the international examples, and highlights the problems which prevent the Romanian Hungarian public radio broadcasting from being an important actor in the public life.
