Summary/Abstract: Among the Roman weapons of attack, apart from their military use, Hasta has developed a completely independent religious and legal historical symbolism or - as a symbol of power - ideology-historical symbolism. This importance, although relatively many researchers have dealt with her, was recognized only by A. Alföldi in its full extent. A special kind of their military application was the hasta pura handed over as a military order (donum militare), and the counterpart to it the so-called censio hastaria, when hasta was taken away for punishment: Festus, p. 54: c. H. dicebatur, cum militi multae nomine delictum indivebatur, quod hastas daret. In this article I deal with Hasta as a military award.
