Summary/Abstract: The Transylvanian press before 1945 is presented in the works of István Monoki and Péter Kuszálik. From these works we can find out that more than three hundred press organs (including political, cultural, economic and religious newspapers) appeared in Transylvania before that date.In socialist Romania, this number dropped drastically to a quarter of the initial value. With the arrival of the Russian army in Transylvania in the autumn of 1944, liberal and right-wing newspapers ceased their activity, leaving only those of left-wing ideology.
