Summary/Abstract: This article deals with the issue of learning styles and their application in language teaching, which is currently used in the didactics. The theoretical approaches about difference between cognitive styles and learning styles, diagnosis of learning styles and learning style theories are analysed. The well-known classification of learning styles by criteria of perception is emphasized. It involves three basic types of learning styles (visual, auditory and kinaesthetic), which are presented clearly. It should be noted here that there are in practice almost no pure learning styles, but mostly mixed forms. That means, two or more channels of perception when used in receiving information, its processing and keeping. While learning the dominant learning style is mostly used, which is supported by the second strongest learning style. The information about the learning styles can be one of the reasons why some are more successful in language learning than the others. It is not only an advantage for the learners to know their learning style, but also for the teachers, for whom it represents an important source of information for the further education process. There are also teaching and learning tips based on a variety of activities to help develop the abovementioned learning styles.
