Summary/Abstract: Different approaches to the problem of radicalization and violent extremism are used in different European countries. The aim of our contribution is, reflecting these experiences, to identify the key features, expressions and possibilities of tackling extremism and radicalization in the context of building a cohesive society. Extremism can be perceived as an organized intolerance, manifested above all by intolerance or by hostility to difference. The characteristics of extremists can also be differentiated according to the individual's belonging to different kinds of extremism. It is very difficult to classify expressions of extremism, especially because it is quite problematic to determine the boundary between normality and extremism. In choosing measures and instruments aimed at eliminating violent expressions and radicalization, in the context of building a cohesive society, we should primarily support non-repressive methods of stakeholder work, increasing the security standard of the population and avoiding risky phenomena, unemployment, poverty, or interetnical social tension.
