Summary/Abstract: Norwegian writer Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson (1832-1910) and Slovak writer Elena Maróthy-Šoltésová (1855-1939) were similar figures. The life and work of these (not only) national personalities is an important source for social work education. We try to point out the importance of Elena Maróthy-Šoltésová and Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson in the development of social work based on their life, and literary and public activities. Through these features Elena Maróthy-Šoltésová and Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson influenced the development of social work in Slovakia and Norway. They should always remain a part of social work education.
