Optimization methods in planning of resource allocation in services companies

Summary/Abstract: The classification of resource allocation problems is presented in the paper. The main reason of proposed classification is to support decision makers in using optimization models in the area of resource allocation. In the second part of the paper the real-life instances of problems in this field are presented. The results obtained by using optimization methods are compared with results determined by decision-makers using only simple decision rules. The article is finished with a summary in which the main reasons for the absence of advanced methods in planning the allocation of resources are identified.
