Summary/Abstract: Unemployment is an important macroeconomic variable. Decision-makers should strive to maintain the unemployment rate at a natural rate. However, estimating the natural unemployment rate is not such a straightforward process. In this article I analyse the impact of selected methods of estimating the natural unemployment rate on monetary decisions. Some of these methods are based on averages and others on analysis of unemployment rate fluctuations.
