Summary/Abstract: The current article analyses the organisational model of the Bulgarian Interior Ministry in the context of its assigned functions to conduct pre-trial criminal proceedings (inquiries) concerning criminal trials. In this regard, a brief historical chronology is presented: since the time when the Law on Criminal Procedures (1897) and the Criminal Procedure Codes (1952, 1974) were effective. The main focus is on the periods after 1989 and especially on the period between 1990 and 2009.
