The Paradigms of the Media Normalization 1998, 2008, 2018

Summary/Abstract: Drawing on the brief descriptions of the historic events in the Slovak mass media in 1998, 2008, 2018 as well as on the concepts of norm, normality, and normalization, the author shows how the consequences of the seemingly banal and unrelated events of mass media daily routine can cause particular change in civic attitudes. And vice versa. There are specific situations within political and social life that can accelerate the paradigm shift in the media dependence and independence. The case studies of the paper have been established on well-known media events in Slovakia: ʻThe Gamatex Caseʼ (1998), ʻThe Presstitutes Caseʼ (2008), ʻ#AllForJanʼ (2018).
