Summary/Abstract: The survey presents translations of Italian literary works into Lithuanian, as well as Lithuanian literary translations into Italian. It also proposes a brief discussion on potential directions of research in Translation Studies. The survey may serve as a preliminary and propaedeutic introduction to a more exhaustive Italian-Lithuanian and Lithuanian-Italian literary translation bibliography. The authors also discuss when and under what circumstances the translations were made. The most suitable method for such a quest is the comparative method. The research has proved to be a complex one, as the historical periodization of the translations is very different. Moreover, it is quite feasible that such an extralinguistic topic should be attributed to the history of culture and cultural relations rather than to the theory of translation. Nevertheless different authors have emphasized close links between the two areas of research, thus such a survey, though not exhaustive, may serve as a basis for further study.
