Summary/Abstract: This article considers two issues from the social cooperatives area. The first relates to the role of social cooperatives in a democratic society with a market economy. The second issue concerns the economic condition of the Polish sector of social cooperatives. The article has a dual goal. It is the empowerment of the sense of existence of social cooperatives in the neoliberal state, and to determine the ability to realize the objectives assigned to social cooperatives, on the Polish example. In examining an attempt to verify or falsify the hypothesis that the economic condition of social cooperatives in Poland allows them to perform their social functions. In the article dominates the deductive method, both in the part related to the idea of social entrepreneurship, as well as in parts of the research related to the economics condition. Considerations are supported by the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy (MRPiPS) data.
