Summary/Abstract: In this paper a review of literature on competition in air transport is presented including its terms, conditions, types and prerequisites. The article focuses mainly on intraindustry competition with particular emphasis on airlines and their operation on long-haul routes. It also analyzes alliances and strategic agreements as they have become a strong response to keen competition from low cost carriers (LCC). The aim of the study is to analyze examples of competition between air operators in long-haul routes in the transport services market. It should be underlined that the competition in the air services market is fierce and occurs on many levels. On the one hand, low cost carriers seek for opportunities to expand their business and enter long-haul markets and on the other, traditional carriers take advantage of some solutions from LCC and offer hybrid ones to their passengers.
