Summary/Abstract: In Turkish Bookbinding Art, the decorative motif in the form of a sun on the bookbindings is called "Şemse”(Sun). The suns seen in the manuscript work bookbindings; the style of application and the motifs used in the drawings, and are referred to by different names. Techniques of sun decoration on leather bookbindings covering manuscript works; the periods they belong to, the motifs used in the drawings and the style of practice, and are referred to by various names. The "Cold Sun" technique, which is the subject of this study and seen in the manuscript works; "Is a topical ornamentation technique which is made by "pressing the prepared pencil mold directly on the leather without using gilding" and highly-applied way in Turkish Bookbinding Art. This study was carried out in Kayseri province; The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has been carried out in Raşit Efendi Manuscript Works Library. In the library mentioned in the scope of the research, manuscripts on works bookbinding that bear the qualities of the national heritage have been worked on with the history which is a very important value in terms of Turkish Bookbinding Art and Turkish Ornamental Art. Especially manuscript bookbinding of works adorned with the technique of "Cold Sun"; the material used in construction and decoration, and the motif and composition characteristics used in the decoration were examined and a total of 9 manuscript works were tried to be documented with their photographs of the bookbinding.
