Summary/Abstract: The sun formed ornament motif on the manuscripts is called “Şemse”. “Şemse” in manuscript bindings differs according to application techniques and motif types and is called with different names. “Cold Şemse” technique investigated in this study has been applied intensively until 15th century in Turkish Binding Art “by pressing the prepared şemse mold directly onto the skin without using gilding”. This study was conducted in Vahit Paşa Manuscript Library, Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Republic of Turkey. Within the scope of research, the manuscripts, which have a very important value in terms of Turkish Binding Art nd Turkish Decorative Art, and which have the characteristics of a national heritage with a history dating back to centuries, have been studied. During the research process, the manuscripts ornamented with the “Cold Şemse” technique were examined in detail in terms of qualitative features such as materials used in the construction and decoration of the binders, applied Şemse techniques, motifs and composition characteristics in technique and applied ornamental techniques. A total of 8 manuscripts were tried to be introduced and documented with photographs. Information about the qualitative features of these manuscripts such as the period they belong to and their names were arranged and explained based on archives of Manuscript Institution of Turkey, Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Republic of Turkey. Although there is no precise date information about when leather binding covers are made and binding date, the dating information mentioned within the scope of the study refers only to the periods in which the manuscripts belong to.
