Summary/Abstract: This article aims to initiate a discussion about how local Romanian communities lived the multiple experiences of the First World War and thus to integrate the local history in the national history. We choose the case of Comarnic community from Prahova county. Using many archived documents, we are interested in analyzing not only the aspects regarding the actions of the combatants on the main Romanian military theatres but also how civils endured the rigors of the German occupation. The local heroism was illustrated by the examples offered by the sacrifice of the soldiers from Comarnic (a town situated along the Prahova Valley), who fought in the most critical battles of the war. On the other side, we tried to create a perspective of the impact of the German occupation upon the civilian population by analyzing the recorded destruction indifferent towns along the Prahova Valley Another level of analysis was is concerned withthe elements regarding the commemoration policies,initiated in the aftermath of the war. Such an investigation will help us to understand better the importance of local history in both gaining historical knowledge and in encouraging remembrance especially giving this occasion of celebrating one century since the Great Union took place.
