Summary/Abstract: This research was conducted to determine the listening and playing habits of the students who were studying violin at Music Teaching Program of Department of Fine Arts Teaching of Niğde University Education Faculty in 2011-2012 Spring semester. With 24 violin student interviews, this research intended to determine the music genres the students frequently listen and play, and the reasons why they choose to play those genres. Collected data are demonstrated in tables using frequency and percentage graphics, and the results are refined with critics and suggestions. The results obtained shows that most students play only Classical Music due to their education although they listen many different genres. Based on these results, suggestions were made for the instructors to encourage their students to play their favorite genres after they gained the sufficient technical abilities, which might be helpful for the students to build up a better connection with their instruments.
