Summary/Abstract: This article deals with the critical essays that professor Svetozar Koljević wrote about english writers and poets. The paper analyses three collections of essays, The Triumph of Intelligence (1963), Humour and Myth (1968) and The Whims ofthe Novel (1988). The essays from these collections deal with a great number of english prose writers and poets of various literary period from Classicism, Roamanticism, Victorianism, Modernism and Postmodernism. Koljević presents in his essays biografic, social, historical and cultural context of the works of his cjšhosen writers. Finally, in the essays of these collections he presents the leading ideologies of these periods.
