Summary/Abstract: In the year 2016 we mark 210 years since Elizabeth Barrett Browning was born and 155 years since her death. She is considered as one of the most important female literary characters in the 19 th century not so much for her literary work but for her constant fight for the female literary cause. Her work inspired many women writers on both sides of the Atlantic. Her poems have not been intensively translated into Serbian. However, her sonnet Life was fist translated by Svetislav Stefanović and was recognized as one of the most representative works of English contemporary poetry. This paper represents a critical overview of the translation. The study includes metric, stylistic and semantic analysis.
